Our Yeovil Sunflower Stroll was held on Sunday, September 1, 2024, with over 100 participants coming together for a day of remembering loved ones and fundraising. The picturesque Aldon Fields provided the backdrop for the 4km stroll, making it a memorable event for all who attended.
After the walk, participants were greeted by volunteers who distributed delightful afternoon cream teas and glasses of fizz alongside a selection of delectable cakes from Somerset’s beloved Mademoiselle Desserts. Despite the true British Summer downpours, the community’s fundraisers spirits were high as they enjoyed the hospice’s charming gardens, and the melodious tunes of the Stanchester Quire, a local community folk choir, who added an extra layer of enjoyment to the day.
The Yeovil Sunflower Stroll was more than just a remembrance walk; it was a celebration of community and compassion. So far, the event has raised over £4,500, with donations continuing to come in, which will help the Yeovil St Margaret’s Sunflower Day Hospice Centre provide exceptional care to those in need throughout the county. The funds raised so far could provide six people with life-limiting illnesses the opportunity to attend the Sunflower Centre for six weeks, offering vital support beyond their regular health and social care services. This specialised service is designed for those well enough to live at home but in need of St Margaret’s unique expertise.
We are grateful for the support we’ve received at this year's Yeovil Sunflower Stroll. It’s incredibly heartwarming to see so many people coming together for a great cause. The funds raised will make a meaningful impact on the lives of those with progressive, life limiting illnesses. The Sunflower Day centre provide a holistic service, helping meet the physical, emotional and social needs and for many this service is a lifeline, so being able to raise funds that directly support this area of the hospice is incredibly important.Merle Harrison-Croft, Event Manager
