Somerset shone bright for Wear it Yellow Week raising £11,600

We transformed Somerset into a vibrant sea of yellow during Hospice Care Week, raising an incredible £11,611.94 in support of our essential hospice services. Schools, workplaces, businesses, and community groups across the county united in the Wear It Yellow initiative to raise awareness and much-needed funds to keep hospice care thriving.

A total of 19 schools, 29 businesses, and 172 community members—representing five community groups—came together to participate in this year’s event. Notable participants included Evo Agency, Stockmoor Lodge – Somerset Care, Birchfield Community Primary School in Yeovil, Host and event sponsor Yellow Peach. Additionally, the Taunton Independent Market showed incredible support, with all 60 local businesses bursting with yellow in a show of solidarity.

The event helped to shine a spotlight on the crucial work carried out by hospice retail and fundraising teams. As hospices across the UK increasingly depend on the generosity of their local communities to stay operational, initiatives like Wear It Yellow are more important than ever. This year, it was highlighted that hospices are raising more money through the sale of second-hand goods than they are receiving from government funding.

Wear It Yellow week saw a variety of fundraising activities, including bake sales, car washes, move-a-thons, sponsored silences, and workplaces adorned in yellow decorations. The event culminated in a real community effort, with participants rallying to raise funds and awareness of our work – providing essential end-of-life care to the people of Somerset.

Thanks to the generosity of Somerset residents, a total of £11,611.94! was raised, which could fund over 175 visits by one of our Community Nurses to patients under our care in the comfort of their own home.

We are incredibly grateful for the overwhelming support we received this year. From schools and businesses to local markets, the entire community came together in a beautiful display of support. The funds raised during Wear It Yellow will go a long way in ensuring that hospice care remains accessible to those who need it most.

The hospice has plenty of ways for people to continue to raise money in support of free hospice care. As we look forward to celebrating 45 years of providing free hospice care to the people of Somerset, we encourage the people of Somerset to get involved with fundraising in any way they can.
