BTC Students Return to St Margaret’s Shop for Window Display Competition

We are happy to share that our partnership with Bridgwater & Taunton College is bearing new fruit! Back in October, students of the college’s L3 Fashion, Business & Retail Extended Diploma and their course tutor Rhona Austin visited our shop for a project on fashion sustainability, upcycling, and recycling. We are proud to announce that the students returned to Bridge Street this January to develop their new project!

This project focuses on developing and launching a marketing campaign to sell charity clothing under the theme “Spring.” As part of our continued partnership, groups of students spent two-hour work experience sessions at the shop throughout the week, gaining valuable hands-on experience and making great use of their time. Taunton Shop Manager Wendy taught the students about styling, accessorizing, window presentation and sales techniques, and the students absorbed her lessons with enthusiasm!

I really enjoyed going to the St Margaret’s shop and styling different outfits for our window display. Working with the store manager gave us so much information to use when considering what garments to include."
I learnt so much about the stock in the store – we planned some back-up outfits to replace the mannequins once those outfits are sold."

Their project concluded with a competition at the college, where Wendy and Ivette Harnett, Retail Marketing Coordinator joined as judges. The students delivered colourful presentations showcasing what they had learned during their time at our Taunton clothes shop, featuring their designs for a window display as the focal point!

Students were evaluated on teamworkcreativitytarget audience appealmood boards, and time constraints considerations.
