Physiotherapy helps to improve the quality of life for our patients with a life-limiting illness by alleviating their symptoms and enhancing their well-being.
Our aim in the St Margaret’s Hospice Physiotherapy team is to find out what matters to the patient and help them to achieve things that are important to them and their family and loved ones. For many people, physiotherapy in palliative care means staying as independent as possible and maintaining a sense of normality.
Our physiotherapists support patients by:
Helping to maintain their quality of life by improving well-being and movement
Managing and coping with their symptoms such as pain, breathlessness, anxiety, weakness, and fatigue
Giving advice and teaching self-management techniques to enable patients to feel more in control.
Our Physiotherapy Services
We offer physiotherapy in a variety of settings at St Margaret’s Hospice:
Our outpatient clinics
Home visits from our Community Nursing team. Most patients in our care wish to remain at home, supported by our extensive community services. St Margaret’s has five community teams supporting patients across Somerset, following a multi-disciplinary approach, focusing on each person and their needs.
Our Sunflower Centre Day Hospices. Our Sunflower Centres in Taunton and Yeovil provide specialist support and advice for patients facing a life-limiting illness, but who are well enough to live at home.
Our Taunton In-Patient Unit. Our specialist team of doctors, nurses, therapists and volunteers provide individual palliative care and support in homely and comfortable surroundings.
