The Big Somerset Cricket Bash event has raised £3,600 for the hospice!

We had a wonderful day accompanied by all 60 participants of St Margaret’s Big Somerset Cricket Bash. Together, we created new memories, remembered loved ones, and, most importantly, made a significant difference to individuals and their families in our local community under the care of our hospice.

The event has already raised £3,600, with more sponsorship expected in the coming days. These funds will make a real difference to the patients who rely on our vital services, whether at home, in our Sunflower Centres, or at our specialist In-Patient Unit.

Fuelled by bacon sarnies, participants completed a 5km walk in the morning sunshine through the stunning countryside surrounding the Taunton hospice in Bishop’s Hull. The route took in Netherclay and Longrun Meadow before finishing at The Cooper Associates County Ground for Day 1 of the County Championship match against Warwickshire Bears. Many walked in honour of loved ones or simply to catch up with friends, old and new. It was a unifying experience for good mental and physical health.

The Somerset boys started well against the Warwickshire Bears, with a good 4 wickets early on but the Bears fought back making a closely contested fun game to watch. Speaking of the Big Somerset Cricket Bash, Andrew Freeman said, “I felt genuinely valued by the hospice. It was a really special event to be a part of.”

It was such a positive day. Participants were happy to remember their loved ones, enjoy a compelling cricket match with their friends and all, whilst supporting the hospice. Thank you to everyone who took part and supported us on the day. A huge thank you to Pynes who provided our bacon sandwiches, Thatcher’s for our much-appreciated cold drink at the cricket ground and of course, Somerset County Cricket Club for donating the tickets to the event!”

St Margaret’s has a number of brilliant fundraising events still in its calendar for this year, from skydiving in Dunkeswell to Sunflower Strolls at both our Taunton and Yeovil hospice sites.
